Since 2021, I was the primary force in getting a FedRAMP® Moderate ATO for a tiny company I co-founded. That included interviewing/hiring/firing advisors and 3PAOs, creating thousands of pages of documentation in both Rev4 and Rev5 (that only I fully read), going through endless meetings and audits, researching and implementing best practices, changing infrastructure and code to satisfy NIST controls, and watching countless dollars evaporate into the FedRAMP process machine while working for free to fund it.

In Nov/Dec of 2024, I did a self-audit and realized I acquired skills in FedRAMP that I should explore more from the vendor side. There was value I could bring to small companies / teams to help them save a LOT of money and time. I was going to immerse myself in all the FedRAMP controls and cloud service offerings, find FedRAMP-specific solutions that provided clear direction built on best practices, and use my engineering background to organize/document/version/keep it up-to-date. I settled on RAMPCOACH to cover FedRAMP / StateRAMP®(now GovRAMP®) and not violate a trademark or copyright.

Then, DoGE and 20X happened, uncertainty arose, and everything I knew instantly seemed dated or changing. I then realized that I was forcing myself into this and didn't have a deep burning interest or passion to be in the vendor space outside of my FedRAMP CSP commitments. A life hack is to be so passionate about something that you literally fall asleep learning about 'it' and then leap out of bed with energy and desire to innovate and create value in 'it'. FedRAMP stopped doing that for me, so I cut my losses.

Keep in mind, the disruptive changes that are happening with FedRAMP is A PERFECT TIME to start a business in it. It will require a passion and commitment to keep up with the changes, absorb all the knowledge, find industry pains that need solving, and then get after it.
